You're As Old As...

I have had a busy past few days.  My father-in-law Marv just turned 60 last week and we celebrated his birthday yesterday with friends and family.  Because I love to bake, I volunteered to make him a cake and some cupcakes.  I made 120 but only ended up bringing 24 home.  I have my Stamp & Snack class tomorrow so I won't have to eat them all! :)

But I wanted to share a few pictures of the cupcakes in addition to the card I made for Marv.

This was my Friday night - thankfully, my husband took the older 2 boys out while I baked.  And I mean that I didn't have to share the beaters! :)

Here they are all finished and ready to eat! There are Carrot Cake/Cream Cheese icing, Chocolate/Kahlua icing, Funfetti/Buttercream, Banana/Peanut Butter icing (we call them "Elvis" cupcakes) and Chocolate/Peanut Butter icing.  Marv requested a special chocolate cake (with coffee in the cake) and a buttercream icing.

I really do have a great father-in-law.  He has a fun personality, so I wanted to do something funny for him. 

 Our 5yo said "that's not very nice to say"... someday he'll understand.  And yes... that really is dirt.

We had a great time and he really enjoyed the cakes and card!

Make a Wish for JAI318 and GDP042

Just a quick post today! I have a few projects to finish for 2 monthly hops (due Sunday and Monday) and well since it's a holiday weekend here in the US, I don't necessarily want to be in my stamp room. :)

Did I really just say that??

So here is the card I made for my friend!  I used the sketch (again) from Global Design Project and the "Just add S" theme from Just Add Ink.

Sketches are my favorite challenge.  It really can help when you're in a hurry and you need that extra inspiration!

I think it's safe to say I added some "S" details - splatter, sparkle, stripes, soft suede... SWEET cupcakes :)

As always, dress up your envelope too! You're already inking the stamp, so you might as well decorate the envelope too! :)

A Special 100th Birthday Wish

Wow!  Can you imagine all the wonders that someone has experienced that has lived to be 100 years old??  I made a very special card this week for a lady I don't even know, but I know her grand-daughter who was sweet enough to ask her card making friends to shower her grandmother with cards.  I jumped right in.  How often do we actually get to make a 100th birthday card??  What a blessing to live that long - the Lord surely loves her and still has plans for sweet Mary!  I thought this was a pretty neat opportunity so I wanted to make the card extra special.  

I also knew I wanted to do something different than everyone else.  I figured a lot of people who were sending cards might be using the Large Numbers framelits and cutting 100 out for the card front.  I didn't want to go that route so I thought about using 100 tiny presents as a background.  The smallest one I found that I own was in the new Weather Together stamp set and I didn't think it was small enough.

Then I saw the candles ... (lightbulb!!)

I stamped 25 candles in 4 different colors to create this fun background.  100 candles for a special lady!  I didn't want to cover up too many candles either.  I promise, all 100 are there, so I kept the rest of the card fairly simple.  I used the new Labeler Alphabet set for my sentiment and paired it with the cupcake from the Sweet Cupcake Bundle.

Worthy of a celebration right?  I'm also celebrating with Stamp, Ink, Paper for their 1st anniversary/birthday as a card challenge site - and it's cardmaker's choice! Yay!
