Ten Minute Tuesday - Just Add Ink Challenge

Well it's Tuesday which means two things: Monday is over (yay!) and it's Ten Minute Tuesday!  Now these cards may seem a little more involved than a ten minute card, but I have a few tips to speed things up.  I also am playing along with the talented group of stampers from Just Add Ink for their color challenge. 

You will see that I tried two different masking techniques.  This first one I stamped the two dahlias along the edges and then stamped another on a separate piece of cardstock so I could cut it out and adhere with dimensionals.  Cutting the dahlia might be the most time consuming part that of your ten minutes.

I chose the smoky slate color for my card base and ribbon.

For the next masking technique I first stamped the dahlia on a separate sheet and cut it out.  Then I stamped in the corner, covered it and stamped a dahlia on each side.  I covered them a little bit more to add my smoky slate splatter.

So there you have it!  Two cards that take less than ten minutes (each) to make!  

Here are some tips that I have for you to make your cards come together a little quicker.

1  -  Have your card bases and layers of whisper white/very vanilla precut.  This saves a ton of time! 

2  -  If you have the dahlia set (or any set you want to mask often), keep the piece you have cut out and use it over and over.  Mine was already cut, but I still cut a new one to see if I could keep things under ten minutes.

3  -  To get the two tone look - VERY IMPORTANT to stamp your lighter color first then "rock/roll" the edges of your stamp gently in the darker color.  ALSO, clean between each flower!!

Fab Friday Challenge - Painted Petals

Lucky you! I have another post for today :)  I was looking through the challenge pages I have saved on my ipad and thought, I haven't tried one in awhile.   Well, get ready!  I have about 4 challenges I want to enter before the end of the week! :)  You might get double posts all week!

The challenge I'm sharing today is from the Fab Friday blog.  You can find it here along with the design team's samples.  It's a subtles color challenge.  Sure makes you think Spring! 

Here is my card that I based off of the colors.  I absolutely LOVE the Painted Petals stamp set.  It's probably my favorite and most used set from the Occasions Catalog. 

I kept the inside fairly simple - but I like to stamp the inside to make it special too! 

 The sentiment I chose from the set means a lot to me.  For the 9+ years that I served in the military, 6 of them were away from any relative.  Our friends truly became our family.  We lived in Arkansas, Alaska & Nevada - and my husband and I both spent time in the Middle East.  

I will always cherish each friendship!

The front was sprayed with some "smooch spritz" that I found spring cleaning last week!  I forgot all about this stuff!  SU! should totally bring it back :)

Oh Baby Baby <3

I had to fill another order this weekend - this time for a baby boy card.  I was a little pressed for time and quite honestly needed to clean my room more than make another mess, so I kept it simple.  

For the first card, I chose a piece of DSP from the Best Year Ever pack.  This was a freebie from sale-a-bration this year, but have no fear - you can still get your hands on a pack.**

I used the Little Letters dies to cut out the word baby and I saved the letters for the other card. The "welcome" is from Celebrate Baby and the banners were just a simple and easy added detail.  

This card came together fairly quick too.  The alligator was a last minute choice.. I always hate adding something and then regret it later... This, however, I didn't regret.

A little frayed detail to the edges and it was complete :)

The Waters of Baptism...

A few weeks ago my friend Karishma ordered a few cards from me that she needed for April.  On Wednesday I asked her when she needed the baptism card and she said it was this Sunday!  I procrastinated and now here I was without the card made AND no idea what to do.  I don't own any stamps pertaining to baptism specifically, but I did have some current (and retired) biblical stamps.

Knowing that's all I had, I went to Pinterest to get some inspiration.  I found the punched out cross cards using the modern label punch.  I liked the idea, but wasn't sure I quite liked the look of the cross.  Then I remembered the PLxSU framelits and knew they'd work better for me.  

I was going to look for the woodsy paper in my adventure bound DSP stack.  As I flipped through I saw it!  Right there... WATER - waves of water :) it was perfect!!

I cut out the cross using one of the Project Life labels framelit.  To get the smaller piece across, I only ran it through halfway, flipped my platform and ran it halfway again.  I added dimensionals to give the card a little detail.  

The inside features a verse from the Blessings from Heaven (retired) and a strip of the same DSP.

OSAT Blog Hop - Mother's Day

Welcome to the OSAT blog for April!  If this is your first time with us, I'm glad you're here!  And if you joined us last month, thanks for stopping by again!  Make sure to check out all of the talented ladies and gents in the hop!  Lots of talent to share :)  We will be making 2 projects each month so make sure to check back on the second Thursday each month. 

This month's theme is Mother's Day.  This was kind of a bummer at first for me because I knew my mom would likely read my blog and see her card early! (Hey ma!)  I don't like to ruin surprises.  But I figured since she would more than likely see the card, I had to make sure I was allowed to use this photo.  This is one of her favorites of her and my grandma.  I love this picture too and had it hanging on my fridge.  Then last week my friend sent me a photo of a card she made her sister with an old B&W photo on the front and I knew exactly what I wanted to do!

I cut the flowers from the painted blooms DSP and added some dimensionals to add some detail.  The MOM were leftovers from another Mother's Day card I recently blogged.   I embossed the sentiment in blackberry bliss with clear embossing powder.  

You can read it as "mom you make me happy" or "you make me happy mom" :)

I kept the inside fairly simple by just adding the same DSP and ribbon from the front.

The second project is a small trinket box made with the bow builder punch, painted blooms DSP, blackberry bliss ribbon & tiny treat box.  I cannot take credit for the big bow - good ol' Pinterest!  

The tag and sentiment are from the Handpicked/From the Garden bundle. 

Perfect for jewelry or chocolate :)

Ten Minute Tuesday - 2x

Well I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend!  It's been a little busy here at my house and I'm really looking forward to relaxing tomorrow.

Tonight I had my Stamp n' Snack.  It's my monthly get-together with a few friends.  We had a great time and made 4 beautiful cards.  And since it's Ten Minute a Tuesday (TMT), I thought I would share two of the cards we made.  They were both quick and easy! 

The first one features the Four Feathers set.  I haven't used this set in a few months and the ladies in my class loved it.  I guess I'll be featuring it again :)

The second card features Banner Blessings!  I told the ladies that I designed the set and they were excited to use it.  I'm so glad it's a set that many people have enjoyed so far.  It was a joy to win the contest with SU! and an even greater joy knowing the set would be a blessing to so many! Glory to God! ;)

Watercolor Wednesday

Well I think we can all talk about the big white elephant in the room and say that Tuesday came and went and my blog sat untouched.  Yesterday we spent the morning at the Mystic Aquarium, finished some shopping for the weekend and ended the night watching my husband play hockey at the rink.  My husband also finished my chalkboard banner for the kitchen!  

This was less than $15 :)  Please don't judge our carb intake haha!  Busy day for sure - sadly I didn't have 10 minutes for Ten Minutes (or less) Tuesday…

So I figured I would combine yesterday's quick thinking of a card and Watercolor Wednesday together.  The "quick" part about water coloring is that you can color fast and not worry about going outside of the lines!  

For today's card I chose the sets Choose Happiness and Feel Goods.  I had originally stamped the sentiment on the same layer but decided to cut it out and give it some dimension.  

See - have fun! Color outside of the lines! Who cares? =)

The very vintage buttons have been sitting on my desk for awhile now.  I just had yet to make a card I wanted to add one to.  I think it works here, don't you?  And the detail on the button - LOVE! 

So there you have it - TMT & WW mixed into one card!
