Carols of Christmas Sneak Peek! - SU's Artisan Design Team Blog Hop

I really really love the dies in this bundle - especially the trees!  The sentiments are bold and big which help fill the cards up and there are plenty of stamps and diecuts to decorate with.

Here are the two cards I made for today.  I wanted to keep the colors more traditional so I chose 

Cherry Cobbler, Tranquil Tide and Night of Navy.

For both cards, I wanted to challenge myself to use product that I haven't used in awhile.  We just moved to Texas last week, and after setting up my craft room, I was reminded of things I haven't used in quite sometime!  Both of these cards use Stampin' Glitter - I despise the mess glitter can make, but I'm so glad I used the glitter for these cards.

For the Peace on Earth card, I wanted to use the starry sky and trees thinlits to create this wintry scene.  I thought silver would go well with the Tranquil Tide and Night of Navy.  I used Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper and Dazzling Diamonds Stampin' Glitter.

To create the glittery snow, I mixed a little bit of Tombow glue with water from an Aqua Painter, splattered glue on the card and covered the spots with glitter.  I then painted the trees with the glue mixture and sprinkled the glitter on top.  To dry quicker and help the glitter stick, I just heated the card stock with my Heat Tool.

Because the Carols of Christmas focuses on the two main (larger) sentiments, I needed something for the inside.  The Star of Light stamp set was the perfect pairing for the inside of the card.

For my second card, I used the Deck the Halls sentiment and paired it with the poinsettias corner thinlits.

I stamped and fussy cut the poinsettias out to add dimension.  I added Gold Stampin' Glitter to the center of each flower with a little bit of glue.  The new Mini Stampin' Dimensionals were the perfect size for these flowers.

Again, the sentiment on the inside comes from Star of Light that pairs so well with it.

Wintry Blues for TGIFC86

I'm not quite to the point where I'm feeling blue about all of the snow and cold weather, but if you ask me this weekend I might change my mind.  We are supposed to get 5" of snow this afternoon and Saturday's overnight low is -24 with a windchill of -40... I think we will be streaming our church service live in our pjs!

So to go along with today's forecast, the new challenge over at TGIF Challenges is "Let It Snow".

Forgive me for my poor lighting.  It's after 11pm and I just got back from Christmas shopping.  Santa only works when 3 little kids are in bed, right?

For the background, I embossed the snowflake from the Stitched with Cheer stamp set onto watercolor paper.  Then I used two different coloring techniques - Pool Party with my Aqua Painter and Bermuda Bay in the Spritzer.

I added some silver splatter by mixing Tombow Glue and water with my Aqua Painter, adding some Silver Emboss Powder and heat setting it with the Heat Tool.

For the sentiment, I used my Pool Party and Bermuda Bay Stampin' Write Markers.  The sentiment is from Wonder of Christmas.

Stitched With Cheer Alternative for TGIFC84

Well hello there December!  Where did you come from?

Anyone else feel that way?

Our older two boys have been asking almost everyday for a week now when it will be December 1st.. You think that I would've seen it coming!

Let the countdown begin to Christmas Day!  We have a very fitting color combo for you at TGIF Challenges this week, but don't let it keep you from thinking outside the box!

I wanted to highlight this fun stitched star from the Stitched with Cheer Kit.  This kit is now on sale for $14(USD) and you get supplies to make 18 cards with envelopes!  What a steal!  These cards a detailed and are so fun to make - definitely worth spending $14 on.  You just need the matching stamp set! :)

Here is the original use of the star on one of the pre-printed card bases:

I decided to take the star and add it to a completely different card.

I made the watercolor background on Shimmery White CS. I first wet the cardstock (you can use a Spritzer or use an Aqua Painter) and then immediately stamped the "smear" image from Perpetual Birthday in Old Olive ink.  I used my Heat Tool to die the cardstock and then added some splatter using my Aqua Painter and the splatter stamp from Timeless Textures in Early Espresso ink.

I added the sentiment and holly leaves from the Stitched with Cheer stamp set.  I also added a few Old Olive Enamel Dots from the Halloween Haunts Enamel Dots pack.  (On sale for $2.20!)

The envelopes that come in the Stitched with Cheer Kit have coordinating envelope liners to match each card.  I absolutely love that extra detail!

Oh, JOY! Tin of Tags highlight

For the month of November, Stampin' Up! is offering 9 stamp sets that coordinate with the new Stitched Shapes Framelits at a discount of 25% off .  One of the sets is called Tin of Tags and it is perfect for holiday gift tags.  It is the set in the bottom right corner.

This set is versatile and is perfect for cards too!  Here are 2 cards that I made using the Tin of Tags set, Gorgeous Grunge and the Large Letters Framelits.

For this card, I took a piece of Soft Sky Cardstock and embossed it with the Softly Falling Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  For the stars around the circle, I placed the circle down first and stamped around it with Dapper Denim Ink.  I added some stars in Crushed Curry Ink, and some Soft Sky splatter from the Gorgeous Grunge set.  I then took the letters that I cut from the cardstock and layered them onto the largest circle from the Stitched Shaped Framelits.  

The "to the world" part of the sentiment was colored with the Dapper Denim Stampin' Write Marker and added to a piece of Crushed Curry Cardstock punched out with the Medium Star Punch.  A little bit of Dapper Denim Ruched Ribbon and this card was complete! 

For the "negative" card - I simply took the cutout of the JOY letters and used this as a layer.  I did plan this ahead when I laid the framelits on the Big Shot.  I don't like to waste paper! haha!

The card base is the Thick Whisper White CS - perfect for card bases.  I stamped snowflakes, stars and splatter again using the same colors in the other card.  I added Stampin' Dimensionals to the Soft Sky layer to pop it up and wrapped the bottom of the card with the Dapper Denim Ruched Ribbon. 

I love this set for Christmas tags, but I really enjoy when stamp sets can give you more bang for your buck.  Tin of Tags is certainly a set that you can get both cards and tags out of with little effort!

Twinkle Trees for GDP053

It seems like I haven't joined in for the challenges over at Global Design Project in awhile, so I thought I would play along in hopes to be a guest designer next month!  There is an insane amount of talent out there and I swear, every time I'm ready to sit down and make something, I see some of my friend's work and think - nah, they got this! There's no point trying :) haha!

But... I do want to play along this week because the color challenge is a tricky one, and I like a good challenge to get my mind going.  I've been trying to come up with some samples with the new Twinkle Trees set and thought this combo would work!

I love this striped washi tape from the Affectionately Yours collection.  A classy look I think. :)  I added Watermelon Wonder with the "bokeh" stamps on the Night of Navy tree.

I added gold embossing powder on top of the tree too.  I should've waited for my navy to dry though.  

(I was working way late - almost midnight... Just a tip for those in a hurry like me - dry your ink!)

I added a cute little star and bow to "top" it off!

The Metallic Enamel Dots were on the special deals last week and I couldn't pass them up.  Tomorrow there will be new deals online along with the HUGE clearance rack that was just updated Tuesday.  Some things are already gone so make sure you get what you want!
