A Succulent Pop & Twist Birthday for TGIFC96

Happy Friday everyone!  It's a beautiful, sunny (and COLD) day here in Minnesota.  I hope you're ready to play along with a new challenge at TGIF Challenges.  We had over 20 entries last week and they were all great to see!  This week we are honoring the lovely Bibi Cameron - she has recently left her job as a SU! demonstrator, but she is still worthy of admiration - she truly is gifted!

Bibi is one of the BEST at watercoloring flowers - or making floral cards in general.  Make sure to check out her website for inspiration!

Yesterday we celebrated my beautiful mother-in-law Linda.  She turned 60 so I knew I wanted to make a very special card.  I decided to (finally) try a Pop & Twist card.  I've seen so maybe over the past year but have yet to try one.  Linda likes fun folds and techniques so I needed to make it for her.

I focused mainly on the Oh So Succulent Photopolymer Bundle except for the front of the card's sentiment which is from the Milestone Moments.  The "sixtieth" fits perfectly in the banner framelit from the Large Number Framelits Dies.

The Succulent Garden DSP and Succulent Garden 3/8" Ribbon Combo Pack finish off the front.

If you are not familiar with the Pop & Twist card, here is the video I watched.  It was a lot less complicated than it looks!

I altered the sentiment a little since the front of the card had "happy birthday" on the front too.

Thank you so much for stopping by!  Please take a moment to play along this week at TGIF Challenges!

Blessings,
Holly

50th Birthday Blessings - GDP057 & PCC214

Today is my neighbor Luann's 50th birthday and I wanted to make her a special card.  Luann and her family have been such a blessing since we moved here last December.  They really have become like family to us.  We go to church together, watch football together, go swimming in their pool.  They really are amazing.

So I wanted to make her a special card and not just pull one out of my collection.  Plus, '50' is kind of a special day!  So I decided I would join the fun at the Global Design Project (though, again, there is almost too much talent to compete with) and the fun sketch from the Paper Craft Crew.

For the background I stamped "happy birthday" from the Sprinkles of Life stamp set.  You may have seen me do this before for this card.  I like the way it looks for a background and wanted to do it again!

The numbers are cut in both Rich Razzleberry and Blushing Bride.

These Fancy Frost Sequins matched pretty close in my opinion.  The actual colors are Sweet Sugarplum and Soft Sky, but you wouldn't have been able to tell had I told you otherwise, right? :)

The sentiment I chose is from the Number of Years stamp set.  I added some Very Vanilla 1/2" Lace Trim, Blushing Bride Solid Baker's Twine and some Gold Metallic Thread.  The DSP is the Blooms & Bliss DSP that is currently for sale with the buy 3, get 1 free promotion.  Great time to stock up on Stampin' Up!'s designer paper. (Click on DSP promotion image below.)

I hope that you enjoyed this card.  I'm off to the neighbor's house to wish her a happy birthday!

Have a great rest of the week!

You're As Old As...

I have had a busy past few days.  My father-in-law Marv just turned 60 last week and we celebrated his birthday yesterday with friends and family.  Because I love to bake, I volunteered to make him a cake and some cupcakes.  I made 120 but only ended up bringing 24 home.  I have my Stamp & Snack class tomorrow so I won't have to eat them all! :)

But I wanted to share a few pictures of the cupcakes in addition to the card I made for Marv.

This was my Friday night - thankfully, my husband took the older 2 boys out while I baked.  And I mean that I didn't have to share the beaters! :)

Here they are all finished and ready to eat! There are Carrot Cake/Cream Cheese icing, Chocolate/Kahlua icing, Funfetti/Buttercream, Banana/Peanut Butter icing (we call them "Elvis" cupcakes) and Chocolate/Peanut Butter icing.  Marv requested a special chocolate cake (with coffee in the cake) and a buttercream icing.

I really do have a great father-in-law.  He has a fun personality, so I wanted to do something funny for him.

Our 5yo said "that's not very nice to say"... someday he'll understand.  And yes... that really is dirt.

We had a great time and he really enjoyed the cakes and card!

Hope you have a wonderful Sunday - make sure to come back tomorrow for the Stamp Review Crew's latest.

Celebrate 89! GDP042

My grandfather "Pap Jake" is turning 89 next Tuesday. Since Monday is a holiday here in the US, I had to be somewhat quick this morning so that I could get the card in the mail today.  (I actually set my alarm early to stamp before my kids woke up!  But.. yeah, that didn't happen..)

I was inspired by the Global Design Project sketch this week.
Pretty simple.  I love sketches - my kind of thing when I'm in a hurry! :)

I wanted to use these little presents for awhile now.  The Weather Together stamp set is one of my new favorites and it has these 2 little presents in the set.  Not sure how to tie them with the umbrellas quite yet, but for now, I think the present looks cute as a background stamp, don't you?

I love the addition of the little fussy cut present too - wrapped in the Emerald Envy solid baker's twine.  The splatter on the 89 is from the new grungy set called Touches of Texture - another great set from the new catalog!  And the numbers are from the Larger Numbers Framelits.

For the inside, I carried over the Emerald Envy DSP, the splatter and the little present.  The sentiment is from the Feather Together set.

Don't forget to stamp your envelope too!

Thanks for stopping by!  If you still have your grandparents (or parents) around - give them a call or visit!

Have a great weekend!

Places You'll Go! Graduation Card for Noah

Hey everyone!  I hope you are having a nice weekend.  The temperature has "dropped" to the upper 70s here today and it feels so nice out!  We just came home from our neighbor's house.  They were hosting a graduation party for their son and I wanted to share with you the card I made.  I'm also submitting this for the Summer Celebration theme for SU Only Challenges.

I also have two extra cards that I made with the Places You'll Go stamp set.  Today's color combo is a fun one - and perfect for the guys.  Dapper Demin, Delightful Dijon and Emerald Envy.

I had the idea of using the globe for the zero in "2016" and I love the way it turned out.

I used the new Copper Emboss Powder - so awesome!  Gives the globe that vintagy-rust look I think.

I also wanted to make this card a money holder.  I hadn't made on in awhile.  Actually, I'm not sure if I've ever made one, but it's easy peasy.  The card stock was cut to 10"x6.5"... Scored at 4"& 8".  The 2" piece I rounded the corners with the PL Corner Punch.

For the inside I carried over the splatter from Gorgeous Grunge (also used the splatter on the numbers) and the same striped Emerald Envy piece from the 2016-2018 In Color DSP stack.

Since this was a rather unusual size of a card, I needed a special envelope.  I like the idea of a vellum envelope, so I used my Envelope Punch Board and made a custom one!

I wrapped the envelope with Emerald Envy baker's twine and used the new Laberler Alphabet for the tag.  I love the typeset font!  (The little airplane is cute too!)

I was very pleased with the graduation card.  I might be a little brave and do something very similar for our card class tomorrow.

If I chicken out, one of these two cards will work as a graduation card too!

Have you seen this new embossing folder?  It's called Seaside.  I think it's a beautiful pattern and fun for all kinds of cards!

I hope you enjoyed these cards!  I have to do some more planning, but I believe this set will be my next Stamps in the Mail kit.  Stay tuned!

Thanks so much for stopping by on your Sunday!  Hope you have a wonderful week! :)

'Affectionately Yours' Highlight #2 - A Card for Kelly

Hey everyone!  This week I am featuring cards that I have made with the new Affectionately Yours DSP from the upcoming catalog!  Today is my sister Kelly's birthday and I wanted to make her a very special card. I have been anxious to share it!

Isn't this paper gorgeous!?

This particular sheet has copper embossed into it - so so pretty in person.  I can't wait to order some of the coordinating copper emboss powder! :)

Inside the shaker, I stamped "Happy Birthday" from the Sprinkles of Life stamp set in Crumb Cake just to give the card a little more detail and let the numbers stand out a little.

Another new item that I purchased during the pre-order are the new Foam Adhesive Strips.
They are perfect for making shaker cards!

The butterfly was punched from another sheet of the Affectionately Yours DSP - I just crinkled it up a little for some extra fun.  The Watermelon Wonder Ribbon and the Lace Doilies are both retiring, but there are new doilies coming out - so have no fear! :)

The arrow stamp is from a new hostess set called Pun Intended and the sentiment again fit perfectly inside.  The arrow is also used on the background of the card, the inside of the card and on the envelope.

I hope you're "bringing birthdays back" too by sending cards!  Don't just write on someone's facebook page! :)

Be sure to stop by this week to see more of the cards that I made with the new DSP!

Happy birthday smelly Kelly! <3

In-Colors Sneak Peek for Fab Friday 87

Wow, is it a gorgeous day here in Minnesota!  I wanted to blog this card this morning but we had plans to hike a new spot.  We just got back from Quarry Park and Nature Preserve.  I'm thinking we will be back often.  There are quarries everywhere throughout the park - some for diving and fishing and some for swimming (cliff jumping!) :)  Eh.. I'm a mom now - my days of jumping off rocks is over!

Anyway, here's the card I made yesterday for my niece before I remembered she doesn't like pink or purple.  Back to the drawing board I guess!

I used the fun sketch over at Fab Friday for inspiration. Click the image below to go to the Fab Friday site and see the design team's creations.

I'm also not a huge pink fan and one of my customers messaged me on Monday letting me know she was anxious to see what I did with the new in-colors because she isn't sure she likes them.
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
I combined Flirty Flamingo, Sweet Sugarplum (I love, btw!) and Rich Razzleberry.  I also used the pretty rushed ribbon and Copper washi tape.

Using my Aqua Painter, I colored all three inks on some Watercolor Paper.  A little flick of the brush to add some Rich Razzleberry splatter at the end.

And do you see that gorgeous DSP that the '15' is cut out of??  That is the new Affectionately Yours DSP that has 2 pieces with Copper Embossed designs.  So pretty!

When I saw the preorder I knew I wanted this new ribbon.  It ties beautifully - it just doesn't look awesome with the tombow glue marks :(

So what do you think?  Do you like the new in-colors?

I hope to be sharing some more ideas soon!
